About Talents Durban 2016
TALENTS DURBAN: 17-21 JUNE 2016 – DEGREES OF SEPARATION: CONNECTING PEOPLE AND STORY
In co-operation with Berlinale Talents at the 37th Durban International Film Festival (DIFF).
This year, Talents Durban opens submissions to 15 writers and directors with fiction, documentary and hybrid projects in development. For the first time, the newly re-conceptualized initiative includes projects of all media formats, such as film, television series, web series and mobile content. In order to build on sustainable networks, the call-for-entry is also aimed at alumni of Talents Durban who participated in any previous editions of the programme. The programme targets emerging film professionals with experiences in the development, production and promotion of films and film projects.
Like before, Talents Durban will again be hosting mentorship and hands-on training for 5 emerging film critics. The Talent Press programme is presented co-operation with FIPRESCI and the Goethe-Institut.
Film has always had the almost magical ability to connect people with story, whether that be one as familiar to you as a simple tale of romance or whether it be as far removed as life on other worlds, film blurs the borders of yours and mine and transforms human existences into something that is shared. The 9th edition of Talents Durban aims to connect 20 Talents from across Africa to recognise, explore and celebrate both the differences and similarities that makes this connectedness through film possible. Also focusing on the content itself and delving into the adage of Africa having many stories to tell. Exploring the reality where these stories are often not told by those who have lived these experiences and what this does to either further separate or connect emerging audiences.
All applicants must apply with a project currently in development. Alumni are not required to complete the general application but simply apply through their existing alumni profiles and only complete the film project presentation section of the application. Alumni can either login through the Talents Durban link below, or through the berlinale-talents.de website, both will redirect them to their alumni profile.
